About Us
The CARes Project makes vehicle loans to credit-challenged, low-income working adults, so they can buy a used car with a warranty, build their credit score, and learn valuable money management skills. We are not a bank or a loan company. The money we use to make vehicle loans is donated by caring people and organizations in the community.
The CARes Project is a nonprofit, 501(c)3, certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) serving people with incomes below 80% of the area median family income who live in Forsyth, Davie, and Davidson counties. Our mission is to help low-income individuals and families to become financially secure through car ownership, by making community-funded vehicle loans and by building skills through financial and credit coaching. Through our program, customers learn to practice good money management skills, increase their creditworthiness, and receive reliable transportation to get to work or school. Reliable transportation is a major factor in the financial stability of low-income families. Research shows car ownership increases hours worked and earnings and reduces reliance on government assistance.
