Vulcan's Annual Sporting Clays Events Provide Over 580,000 Meals
Winston Salem, NC- Vulcan Materials Company held its 2017 Take Aim at Hunger Sporting Clays Tournaments to support the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina (NWNC) and FeedMore of Central Virginia.  Over 200 employees, customers, and vendors participated in these events which were held at the Hunting Creek Preserves in Harmony, NC and Old Forge Sporting Clays in Providence Forge, VA.  In total, Vulcan’s employees and friends raised a record $84,000 split between these two organizations.
For every dollar donated, Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC and FeedMore are able to distribute seven nutritious meals to those in need of food assistance.
Clyde Fitzgerald, Jr., Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC, noted that Vulcan’s contribution will provide over 294,000 meals to needy individuals across the 18 counties served by Second Harvest.  “Vulcan’s long term support of our program has been tremendous. For the company to take the extra step and host such a unique event to raise much needed funds is an extraordinary gift.  Our deepest appreciation goes out to Vulcan, its employees and business associates for caring for their community in this meaningful way.”
"We are grateful to have partners like Vulcan Materials Company standing beside us in the fight against hunger," said Tim McDermott, Chief Development Officer at FeedMore. "Vulcan is guided by principles that include high respect for people - their dignity, values, and interests. As a backbone nonprofit for Central Virginia, we also respect the nearly 200,000 children, families, and seniors who struggle with hunger and strive each day to enable them to retain their dignity, values, and interests. This is only possible with the support from Vulcan and over 20,000 FeedMore volunteer and philanthropic supporters."
Commenting on this year’s events, Martin Thorpe, president of Mideast Division, noted “We are extremely pleased by the support from our employees, customers and friends for such a worthy cause.  Addressing hunger in our communities is one of the most important issues we can support that can improve the quality of life of individuals and families.  We are proud to be a key partner with Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC and FeedMore of Virginia to meet these pressing needs in our communities.  We are also appreciative to our sponsors of this year’s events who partnered with Vulcan to feed the hungry including our Elite Partners: Carolina CAT; Carter Machinery; Colony Tire; Concrete Plants, Inc.; Linder; Mellott; Mitchell Wealth Management; and Rock and Coal Construction.”
