Description
In this concert, pianist Jason 'Floyd' Coleman brings new life to the music made famous by his grandfather, Floyd Cramer. From humble beginnings on the Louisiana Hayride to the Hall of Fame recording career in Nashville, to the iconic "Last Date" and signature 'slip-note' piano style, Jason shares the musical memories of his grandfather to tell the Floyd Cramer story in a way no one else can.
The famous pianist, Floyd Cramer was inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His signature playing style was a cornerstone of the pop-oriented "Nashville sound" of the 1950s and 1960s. His "slip-note" or "bent-note" style, in which a passing note slides almost instantly into or away from a chordal note, influenced a generation of pianists. As a studio musician, he became one of the very elite players dubbed the "Nashville A-Team" and performed on scores of hit records such as Last Date and On the Rebound.
Cramer's grandson, Jason Coleman, performed with him on television and in concert at a young age. At age 17, Jason played Please Help Me, I'm Falling, the first song to feature Cramer's signature slip notes, with Hank Locklin at the Grand Ole Opry, and two years later played piano from the Medallion Ceremony at Cramer's induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He continues to carry on his grandfather's legacy by performing the well-known piano arrangements and the story about his grandfather's contributions to American music.
The concert will include other of his grandfather's top-10 mainstream hits On the Rebound, San Antonio Rose, both to Hank Locklin's Please Help Me, I'm Falling and songs that Cramer's distinctive keyboards helped make famous: by Elvis Presley (Are You Lonesome Tonight? and Love Me Tender), Bob Wills, Don Gibson, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline (Crazy, Sweet Dreams, I Fall to Pieces) and many others.
This is a concert to sit in "the best listening room in the Triad" and simply enjoy the Brock's Steinway.
